The town of Bergheim is something of a miracle-worker: unlike most of its neighboring villages, it had the good fortune to be spared from the last two world wars! Today, it retains many lovingly preserved vestiges. Its 14th-century fortified double wall features a high gate and 9 towers. The town hall dates from 1776, and next to the church is a Renaissance ossuary dating from 1550. Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church features a 14th-century choir and a Gothic bell tower-porch. In addition to the Peltzkappe (Witches' Tower), there's also a lime tree that is thought to have been planted in 1300!
