Rodern was founded around the year 1000 around a fortification which had for goal to protect the communication way along the limit between the High and the Low Alsace. It is to this particular implantation that Rodern owes its name which means "village on the road". In addition to the Saint-Georges church (1310), one can admire the Schloessel, a beautiful bourgeois house built in 1616, and half-timbered winegrowers' houses from the 16th century. Some of them bear the coat of arms of the lordship of Bergheim, of which Rodern was a part during 2 centuries. During your visit to Rodern, take the time to taste the famous Pinot Noir which makes the fame of Rodern.
