This Mediterranean port, capital of the Var department in southeastern France, is a destination that lacks neither charm nor dynamism. Whether it's on the sea side or the city side (with your tourist guide in your pocket), it's the same attraction. If the harbor and its port attract many tourists, the city center is also very visited with its historical monuments and its many museums including the Toulon Art Museum, the National Museum of the Navy, the Museum of History of Toulon and its region or the House of Photography. We can also mention the Museum of Asian Arts and the D-Day Memorial. There is also an intense cultural life around the opera, the theater, concerts and other live shows. You will have no trouble satisfying your artistic thirst. For the rest, the beaches invite you to all the seaside and nautical pleasures. The beaches of Mourillon, easily accessible, are the most popular. More secret, the Méjean and Magaux coves are typical of the Mediterranean coast with their creeks, cliffs and umbrella pines. Take your guidebook with you and you won't miss the numerous markets of the city with their fresh stalls, flowers, fruits, vegetables and fish. Take the little tourist train to the beaches and the port, cross the harbor by boat-bus or take a cruise to theisland of Porquerolles. Last but not least: the red cable car of Mount Faron which takes you in 6 minutes to the top (584 m) with a splendid view of the Mediterranean.
When to go to Toulon? The two best periods to discover this city and more generally the Var are either spring or autumn, which corresponds to the low tourist season. Hotel and restaurant rates are then more affordable than in summer and the beaches are almost deserted. As for the climate, it is ideal, warm, but not too hot, and you can often swim from spring to the end of November. Winter is the very low tourist season, but the climate remains mild with the possibility of many hikes under the sun. The high tourist season is of course summer, in July and August, the roads are crowded and the fares are easily tripled. It is then really necessary to book your stay well in advance. The Var is, in fact, one of the most touristic regions in France and it is not only appreciated by the French, but also by a very large number of foreign tourists. However, if you choose to stay in the Var in summer, it is the right time for outdoor festivals. You can plan your visit during the high points that thrill the city, but plan ahead. In November, there is the highly specialized Festival International des Musiques d'Écran, in March, Bacchus, the Wine and Food Festival, in April, Mang'Azur, the festival of Japanese culture, in July, the jazz festival in Toulon..

In summer, the heat can be scorching in Toulon with temperatures reaching 35°C in August during the high tourist season. In spring, nature is in bloom and the weather is pleasant. In autumn, the weather is mild and the landscapes are colorful. These quieter periods are therefore very popular.
