The coastal path, better known as "sentier des douaniers", is a must to discover Toulon.

Toulon residents by adoption or local are unanimous, the coastal path, better known under the nickname of "sentier des douaniers" (it was created in 1791 by the customs administration to monitor the coast) is a must to discover Toulon. It offers a nice walk (about 4 hours round trip) to the Magaud cove, which you can do with your family if you help the children for some difficult passages. Take the path at the level of the Royal Tower to reach, after several small creeks, the beach of Mitre and its characteristic rock. You can even swim there if the sun is shining (first aid post on site in summer). If you continue, you will arrive at the Saint-Louis port and its fort, from where many fishermen still leave early in the morning. You will then have the choice between the shaded Henri Fabre promenade that joins the Tabarly cove or to walk along the seaside. Then take the path that rises gradually above the cliff and then the path of the Batterie Basse to the Anse Méjean. Pines, flowering bindweed, acanthus, cineraria, centranthus and exotic plants color your path. You will discover a very picturesque little port with its white huts with blue shutters. At the end of the cove, a small path leads down to the next cove, Anse Magaud, where you can get your strength back in a restaurant serving seafood specialties. Otherwise, go back up to the Corniche Charles de Gaulle and its beautiful villas overlooking the sea.
