COURS LAFAYETTE
Cours Lafayette is the heart of the city. Nicknamed the "pavé d'amour", it is home to the market and numerous cafés and restaurants.
Long nicknamed "le pavé d'amour" (the love pavement), because Toulon locals used to come here to chat, Cours Lafayette is the city's main thoroughfare. Entirely pedestrianized, from Tuesday to Sunday it hosts a well-stocked Provencal market, which inspired one of Toulon-born Gilbert Bécaud's most famous songs. The whole town gathers here to comment on the news of the day. You'll find stores of all kinds all along the Cours (restaurants, cafés, grocery stores, fashion boutiques)... and, at the bottom, the baroque church of Saint-François de Paule.
