Populated as early as the Neolithic period, the town was later occupied by the Romans who named it Vallis Læta and, by the 11th century, the town center was located in its current location. Well known today for its Valgora tertiary park, its Grand Var and Grand Var Est shopping centers and its recently opened Avenue 83, an open-air shopping mall, the city of Valletta was once a small rural village which, benefiting from good climatic conditions and abundant water, specialized in market gardening and horticulture. The strawberries of La Valette-du-Var are particularly popular with fruit and dessert lovers.
