Kirchheim dates back to Roman times, according to remains. In the 7th century, it was the residence of the Merovingian kings. Dagobert II, Charles the Fat and Empress Richarde all settled here. Legend has it that the famous folk song about Dagobert turning his breeches inside out originated here. In Gutenberg's time, one or more small printing works were located in Kirchheim. The town's coat of arms refers to this: an open book with a golden initial, the K of Kirchheim, accompanied by a golden printing ink pad. Numerous associations are at work to provide entertainment throughout the year.
