It's a friendly town, and many details come to light as you stroll through: houses with Renaissance turrets, a Romanesque tympanum and bas-relief in the church, an attractive 18th-century architectural ensemble housing the town hall, the Marlenberg chapel with its remarkable slate bulb roof. There's also the Marlenberg Way of the Cross, a fine example of 18th-century Alsatian folk art. Marlenheim is also the northern gateway to the Alsace Wine Route. It has been linked to vine-growing since the 6th century, when the commune was home to a Merovingian palace. It is part of the Couronne d'Or, Strasbourg's historic vineyard.
