South of Montélimar, nestled in a green and lavender setting, on the N7, this village with a Provencal flavour offers a pleasant break between the Ardèche and the Aiguebelle monastery on the GR429 hiking route. Born from a transfer of the chief town of the hamlet of Rac in the 19th century, Malataverne conceals treasures of religious buildings with the church of St Jean Baptiste and the Romanesque chapels of the hamlet of Rac and the hill of Montchamp which offer two remarkable points of view on the plains of the Drôme, the Rhone and the relief of the Ardèche. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the site continues to reveal its secrets to archaeologists.
