This tiny medieval village is so charming, it's well worth the detour. Richerenches was the general commandery of Provence, founded in 1136 by Arnaud de Bedos. The village has retained its fortress-like appearance, with four towers and ramparts. The commandery is one of the best preserved in France. The dwelling of the commander and his knights, the well and the church with its narrow nave and cul-de-four apse can still be seen. On Saturday mornings from November to March, the truffle market is a reminder that Richerenches is an important production center. The area is also at the heart of the Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards.
