This medieval village of a thousand inhabitants, enclosed within its ramparts on the edge of a rocky outcrop overlooking the Pierrelatte plain, is classified among the most beautiful in France. It takes its name from the illustrious Adhémar family, whose castle stands in Montélimar. Walking in its sun-protected alleyways, discovering the Chapelle des Pénitents, the Porte d'Amont and this place bathed in light, is a real pleasure. The remarkable Romanesque church of Saint-Michel was restored in the middle of the 19th century, thanks to the support of Prosper Mérimée, the "inventor" of historical monuments. A jewel! You should also visit the Herb Garden and the Collection Garden - conservatory of 200 plant species (free access). From here, the Rhone Valley seems to be quite unnatural... 2 km away, the Val des Nymphes is an oasis of romantic freshness, a former place of pagan worship, where a 12th century chapel stands on the water's edge, restored some twenty years ago. And La-Garde-Adhémar, a veritable "watchtower" over the Rhône valley, serves as a landmark for those who take the A7. Enough to make them want to take a little detour...
