Already classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France and one of the Grands Sites Occitanie, Conques has been elevated to the rank of Unesco World Heritage Site. To make the most of it, vehicle traffic is prohibited in the village. As you stroll along the main street, known as Rue de Charlemagne, you'll admire medieval houses with corbels or half-timbering, cobbled streets with a central gutter, and slate roofs. You can't pass by without admiring the abbey church, which combines Romanesque architecture, medieval goldwork and contemporary Soulages stained glass. It's also an important stopover on the Camino de Compostela pilgrimage route.
