Its particular location, in the centre of a cirque of limestone cliffs, has truly protected this village, even leaving the impression that it has stopped time. The current layout and general appearance are almost identical to what it was supposed to be in the Middle Ages. The second particularity of this village is to have kept the name inherited from the Revolution. Before, it was called Salles-Comtaux, because of the many castles belonging to the Counts of Rodez. In 1589, one of the castles was taken by the league, claiming to be Henri de Valois, but the villagers did not accept and took back the stronghold. A third particular feature of this village is its 20 m high waterfall, which attracts many visitors. A true white plume, it springs from the cliff and falls back into a natural basin in the middle of the village. There are also many vestiges of the history of Salles-la-Source: the castles of Cadayrac, Les Ondes, Calmontie, the Saint-Loup church which houses an altarpiece with crucifixion from 1635 or that of Saint-Paul, below the village, in which there is a Romanesque polychrome wooden Christ. Above Pont-les-Bains, the church of Saint-Austremoine is a jewel. On the other side of the small road, a stone cross of Romanesque inspiration but of contemporary design on which the author freely interprets medieval legends.
