In 768, a fortified house known as "Ferté-Beaurain" was built, and the village took the name of Mesnil (group of houses) Saint-Denis (name of the founding parish). In the 16thcentury , the current château was built by the Habert de Montmor family, who ruled the village until 1720. It was inhabited as early as 1592. Louis XIV made the territory a county in 1650, and the village took the name of Mênil-Habert. Since 1984, the town has been part of the Parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, enabling it to protect its historic heritage, the charm of its rural life and its island of greenery.
