Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, a new town conceived in the 1970s on a hitherto sparsely urbanized area, is in fact a territory made up of 12 separate communes: Coignières, Elancourt, Guyancourt, La Verrière, Les Clayes-sous-Bois, Magny-les-Hameaux, Maurepas, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Trappes, Plaisir, Villepreux and Voisins-le-Bretonneux. This agglomeration community, with a population of almost 230,000, owes its name to the Saint-Quentin chapel on the site of the Ile de Loisirs. The western part of the site is also part of the Paris-Saclay science and technology park.
