This medieval town, whose origins date back to the 10th century, has retained its character of yesteryear. A stroll along its cobbled streets to the church, or through the ruins of the ramparts and castle, is a real treat for history buffs. All that remains of the original fortified castle, destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, are the remains of the ramparts built by Amaury I, the Anne-de-Bretagne tower and the ruins of the keep. At the foot of these, overlooking the town, stands the Belvedere: the famous house-turned-museum where Maurice Ravel settled in 1921. A little way from the town center, the Château de Groussay is also well worth a visit.
