In the Middle Ages, the Malrepast family built a wooden castle at Maurepas, replaced in the 11thcentury by a stone structure with a keep. In 1691, the village became a county for Louis XIV's Chancellor and Keeper of the Seals. Unhindered by the evils of history, it underwent major development in the 19th century with the arrival of the Paris/Chartres railway line. The town then modernized and became part of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines conurbation, before regaining its independence in 1984. Today, Maurepas has all the services and attractions of a modern town, while offering the peace and quiet of the countryside.
