As early as 768, Rambouillet was identified in a document signed by Pepin le Bref as part of a donation of land to the abbey of Saint-Denis. It wasn't until the 14th century that the town became a seigneury. It was also here that François I died, in the tower that today bears his name. It wasn't until the 18th century that Rambouillet finally became a royal town. Finally, the arrival of the railroads in the 19th century brought a breath of fresh air. In addition to the château, you can visit the Laiterie de la Reine (built in 1785 by Louis XVI), the Chaumière aux Coquillages, or the Bergerie nationale and its superb forest.
