Less popular than Chantilly or Senlis, the prefecture of the Oise department is nonetheless worth a look for its cathedral and its former episcopal palace. In the town centre, you can discover houses built in the 16th century, which survived the German bombardments of 1940, and which are recognisable by their timber framing and their corbelled floors. Every year in June, Beauvais celebrates the victory that Jeanne Hachette offered, in 1472, when she took the lead in the resistance against the 80,000 men of Charles the Bold who besieged the city. Also note that Beauvais is home to one of the national factories dedicated to tapestry.
