In the heart of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park, this peaceful village bears the name of the bishop of Reims who converted and baptized Clovis, King of the Franks. In the Middle Ages, it benefited from the royal residence of Saint-Léger, where Hugues Capet and then Robert le Pieux built a castle that attracted kings until the dawn of the 13th century. In 1112, a priory of nuns was established in the hamlet of Haute-Bruyère, contributing to the town's expansion. In the 19th century, economic activity was divided between agriculture, a large tile factory, open-cast sandstone quarries and four mills fed by the waters of Coignières.
