Although the history of Les Mesnuls dates back to the 1st century, the village didn't really take off until the end of the Middle Ages, with the construction of a seigniorial castle and a church. The town center is grouped around the church of Saint-Eloi and a paved avenue of lime trees leading to the châtelet entrance to the château. The château, listed as a historic monument since 1975, is now owned by the Chateauform company. The hamlet of La Millière, in the heart of the Rambouillet forest, was the site of the discovery of a Gallo-Roman villa in 1963. The Guyonne, a tributary of the Mauldre, rises and flows through Les Mesnuls.
