Formerly known as "Merey", this is the oldest village in the canton of Montfort-l'Amaury, dating back to the 8th century. Its name comes from the Gallic Madriaca, a reference to the cult of the Mother. The village is irrigated by a small stream, the Ru de Ponteux, which flows into the Lieutel, a tributary of the Mauldre. In terms of historical heritage, the stone church of Saint-Denis-de-Méré dates back to the 12thcentury . It features a square, two-storey bell tower topped by an octagonal slate spire. It's also worth noting that the former lord of Méré, Jean de Poltrot, was the assassin of Duke François de Guise during the Wars of Religion.
