Since the 11th century, Houdan has been the territory of the Lords of Montfort, before becoming part of the royal domain at the end of the 15th century. Today, the town still proudly displays its medieval past, with its keep and the remains of its ancient walls. You'll discover cobbled streets, beautiful half-timbered houses built in the 15th and 16th centuries, and other curiosities, such as the magnificent Hôtel de Ville, a former 12th-century nobleman's residence. Situated on a rich agricultural estate, Houdan has given its name to one of France's finest breeds of chicken, with its delicate, Red Label meat, produced and cooked locally.
