A charming little village on the Versailles plain, Crespières is bordered to the south by the Ru de Gally, a tributary of the Mauldre river. Inhabited since Neolithic times, Crespières was first a dependency of the La Croix-Saint-Leufroy abbey, then of the Saint-Martin-des-Champs abbey. Its heritage includes a 12th-century church and two châteaux: Wideville, built in 1580 and now owned by Italian fashion designer Valentino, and the grand Hôtel de Sautour, abandoned in the heart of the village. The Moulin de la Bonde, on the banks of the ru, was also home to Georges Brassens from 1958 to 1971.
