Of all the stages of the pilgrimage, the town of Puente de la Reina is perhaps the one that best evokes the atmosphere as it must have been in the Middle Ages. It is also the meeting point of the two main Spanish pilgrimage routes: the Navarrese route, which passes through Roncesvalles and Pamplona, and the Aragonese route, which passes through the towns of Jaca, Leyre and Sangüesa. At the entrance to the city, a monument is there to symbolically remind us of this: we pass under the arch of the church of the Crucifix, prelude to a beautiful walk along the rúa Mayor - its emblazoned houses, its churches - until we reach the Romanesque bridge, the true jewel of the city.
