On the banks of the Ebro River, the "town with two bridges" that pilgrims crossed on their way to Santiago de Compostela as early as the 10th century has become an important crossroads on the wine route. The capital of the small region of La Rioja, rich producer of the national "red gold", shows all the signs of opulence: modern arteries lined with buildings, rows of offices, banks, insurance companies, a galloping urban development... Next to it, the few alleys of the old town continue their quiet life to the rhythm of the sacrosanct pub crawl. The evening begins in the cafes of the Senda de los Elefantes, continues in the Plaza del Mercado and ends in Duquesa de la Victoria street to go to the discotheque.Nestled against the Ebro Park, a large green space that borders the river, Logroño's historic center is crossed by a main street, Calle Portales, and bordered by the bullring, the town hall, and the Paseo del Espolón (where the tourist office is located). All the monuments are concentrated in this area. The deep connection between Logroño and the Pilgrim's Way is especially visible around the Rúa Vieja, where the pilgrims' hostel and the pilgrims' fountain can be seen. The 16th century Santiago Church also reflects this link. In the historic center, the Cathedral of Santa María la Redonda, with its imposing baroque towers, is worth a visit.
