Fuenterrabía is a charming little town of just over 17,000 inhabitants, much appreciated in summer by a loyal clientele from Madrid. For centuries, it was a traditional stronghold and fishing town. The old quarter, with its winding streets, is very well preserved, as is the Marina district, with its picturesque little houses and colorful balconies full of flowers. The people of the French Basque Country, as well as those of Gipuzkoa, love to go from the banks of the Bidasoa to the wild Cap du Figuier. Whether in the old town or the fishermen's quarter, the city has plenty of charm.
