To take a little tour of Arcangues is to discover its church, typically Basque, at the top of the square with its porch, its Romanesque door and inside, its magnificent carved oak galleries, its remarkable gilded altarpiece, a unique nave... its cemetery, a terraced garden cemetery like all Basque cemeteries, the steles evoking the Basque provinces: Labourd, Basse-Navarre, Soule. Ermend Bonnal composer and organist (a pupil of Gabriel Fauré), Pierre d'Arcangues, poet, novelist and also former mayor of the town and finally the national hero Mariano Gonzalez, the singer Luis Mariano rest here.
