LE CHÂTEAU D’ARCANGUES
Château d'Arcangues, an ideal venue for christenings, weddings, film shoots, concerts and recitals.
The Arcangues family of lords, known since the 12th century, dominated local administrative life without interruption from the 16th to the 18th century. On April 30, 1790, the two Arcangues brothers demanded the abolition of privileges on behalf of the Labourdine nobility. The château was originally built by the lord of Arcangues and Curutcheta in 1150, and since then the same family - Pierre, Guy, Michel d'Arcangues - has resided here from father to son, responsible for the renovation of the historic town center, the creation of schools, theaters... and the organization of sumptuous festivals. The château we're visiting today is the fourth, rebuilt in 1900 on the site of the previous one, with its curious roof overhanging bracketed beams. It boasts spectacular interior architecture and a collection of large Gobelins and Aubusson tapestries, Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture, the Duke of Wellington's bedroom, family portraits and antique paintings, huge peripheral libraries and a very interesting collection of autographs by various celebrities. In 2009, the château opened its doors to the public, with an interesting museographic space and a store selling books written by Pierre, Guy and Michel d'Arcangues. The château organizes lunches and dinners, as well as private receptions. Ideal for christenings, weddings, film shoots, concerts and recitals. And even fashion shows. An exceptional setting.
