At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Hossegor had for heart a freshwater lake, occupying the former bed of the Adour. The city develops around this lake connected to the ocean in 1880. In the early twentieth century, neo-Basque style buildings flourish on its shores. The town has welcomed prestigious guests including writers, poets and musicians such as Paul Marguerite, Paul Valéry, J.-H. Rosny, André Gide, Paul Claudel and Maurice Ravel. Celebrities, artists and great fashion designers still cross paths today. Along the ocean, a one-kilometre long footbridge invites you to take a walk and enjoy the "Elegance of the Ocean".
