It is a small town of about 2,000 inhabitants where you can stop to have a look at the church of San Martín, built in the 18th century, which preserves elements of the primitive church of the 17th century, such as its bell tower and its cross vault. Just outside Ayegui, we come across one of the jewels of the pilgrimage, the Irache Monastery. The life of the town was once closely linked to that of the monastery, on which it depended for its daily business. Ayegui is also a non-Basque-speaking municipality in the province, and only Castilian has official language status. There are several shops where you can do your shopping.
