Plaisir derives from the Latin placere (to please), in reference to the attractive appearance of this place, situated in a basin and protected by the forest, at the junction of two streams. The priory around which the village was built dates back to the 8th century. The territory is spread over seven hamlets: la Bretéchelle, le Buisson, la Boissière, la Chaîne, les Petits-Prés, le Village and les Gâtines. At the end of the 20th century, Plaisir shifted from a rural to an urban setting, and began its economic boom with the installation of major companies. In the early 1970s, Plaisir joined the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines conurbation, before leaving in 1983.
