Located to the east of the Montfort plain and to the west of the Versailles plain, the village was formerly known as "Villiers-Cul-de-Sacq" - a reference to its difficult access from Neauphle-le-Château, only possible via a very steep road. As for the toponym "Saint-Frédéric", it refers both to the saint of the same name and to Frédéric Phélypeaux, Count of Maurepas, who had the parish church built in 1780. Irrigated by the Mauldre river, the communal territory extends over five hamlets: Bois de Villiers, La Châtelaine, the Mauldrette housing estate, the former seigneury of Pontel, and Le Rosier.
