Adjacent to the witness of Montmorency forest, Mourning-la-Barre is one of the nearest districts of the Val-d'Oise in Paris, less than kilometres away. Today a residential city, it nevertheless retains several traces of its past, including orchards and slopes. With a total of 22 000 inhabitants, a constantly increasing number, Grief-la-Barre is served by an efficient transportation network, putting it only minutes from Paris. It was only in 1952 that the city of Mourning took its final name, the name of the Bar being added by decree.
