The name Enghien comes from Belgium. In the 17th century, the Prince of Condé was both lord of the lands of Montmorency and Enghien, near Mons. He united them under the same name which finally ended up designating only a pond, then the hamlet founded on its banks in the 18th century, when the abbot Louis Cotte discovered sulphurous water springs there. In the 19th century, a thermal bath, hotels and villas were built. The healing of Louis XVIII, then affected by a leg ulcer, thanks to the waters of Enghien, definitively established the resort. The city became a place of cure and entertainment and was equipped with a casino at the beginning of the 20th century
