Villeneuve-la-Garenne, a commune of the Hauts-de-Seine, a former fishing hamlet that stretched along the Seine, is located in one of the loops of the river. It is thus at one with the river, which defines part of its contours. Villeneuve depended for a long time on Gennevilliers and it is only in 1929 that the commune was created. Part of Villeneuve is now occupied by the Chantereines departmental park which also encroaches on Gennevilliers. It also includes several monuments listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage. In the 19th century, Villeneuve also inspired the painters Alfred Sisley and Berthe Morisot.
