From 1676 onwards, Louis XIV bought Marly-le-Châtel and then Marly-le-Bourg in turn, and united the two parishes, which naturally became "Marly-le-Roi". On the same hill, he commissioned Jules Hardouin-Mansart to build a château and grounds more intimate than Versailles. Abandoned during the Revolution, the château was destroyed in the 19th century. In the early 19th century, artists, painters, writers and Impressionists settled in this peaceful village: Alfred Sisley, Alexandre Dumas fils, Aristide Maillol... In 1932, the park was listed as a Monument Historique and the estate became a presidential property.
