Located away from the main traffic routes, this city of a large twenty thousand inhabitants has a rich history. In the tenth century, his lands became Bouchard's fief the Barbu, whose descendants will take the name Montmorency. This family has been very closely linked to royal power over the centuries. It came from: six marshes, twelve marshals and four admirals. If the feudal castle has disappeared, the ancient center of the commune has preserved its charm. From the seventeenth century, the city was the seat of trademarks. It is the Brun, the official painter of Louis XIV, and then the financier Crozat, who takes over his castle and builds a larger house in his place. Then Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote his most important works. In the nineteenth century, Montmorency remains a popular resort. The calm of the forest, the Guinguans of the Châtaigneraie, the donkey walks and cherries, attract celebrities to the dawn of the Great War. Today, the city has retained its chic side - and is perceived as such - and is full of nice things to discover.
