On the edge of the Compiègne forest, Pierrefonds has preserved its authentic romantic charm. Under the Second Empire, the village was a fashionable resort and spa. Although the railroad line disappeared in 1964, the old station built in 1884 by architect Charles Lecœur bears witness to Pierrefonds' considerable success as a tourist and health resort. Take a stroll through the town's beautiful town houses and admire the Château de Jonval, high above the lake, which inspired Alexandre Dumas to create the home of the musketeer Portos. Pierrefonds also boasts a remarkable medieval castle.
