The Etoile is of these typically Jura villages whose calm is appreciated. Nestled in its hillsides, with its houses maturity and washing in the hills, there are five castles: the priory of the Etoile, the Montceau, the castle and the estate of Montbourgeau, the castle of Persanges. Five castles for five hills around the village and make up the branches of a star. The name of the commune may come from there… The wine growers like to think that we owe it to the countless pentacrines, small fossils in star shapes, that they collect on their land.
