At the crossroads of the country of Grandvaux and of the Lakes, Bonlieu is a summer holiday destination for lovers of calm, fishermen and hikers. The town houses a few good tables and a long 700 metre long lake. The White Lady Belvedere offers a beautiful view of the Hedgehog valley. It has been redesigned and its access is now easy. Follow the D 67 towards Saugeot. Land isolated and conducive to contemplation! At the end of the th century, Thibert de Montmorot founded a monastery belonging to the order of Chartreux, governed by the austere rule of Saint Bruno. Over the centuries, the abbey's possessions extend to Arbois. But there are various events that disturb the calm of the places: the plague, first, strikes the region in the th century, the Ten Years War then the Destructive Conquest of Franche-Comté by Louis XIV also brings their lots. The Revolution signals the end of the religious life of the place: the buildings then become an arms manufacturing. During the Second World War, the old convent houses people who seek to withdraw from the world for reasons other than monks: resistance. In 1944, terrible fighting took place here and the Germans burned the buildings which left nothing more. To immerse yourself from the atmosphere of the places, the best is probably to read the book that Bernard Clavel devoted to the place: Bonlieu or the silence of nymphs.
