At the junction of the Val d'Arly and the Sallanches basin, Megève was one of the first international winter sports resorts. Like the Swiss resort of Saint-Moritz, Baroness Noémie de Rothschild took the initiative in 1922 to create the Mont-d'Arbois Palace to welcome this aristocratic European clientele. Built away from the original village, on the heights of the Mont d'Arbois, a veritable belvedere on the Mont Blanc, it is an estate of 450 hectares which still benefits today from a privileged location. This was the beginning of the development of the worldly resort that we know today, with an altiport, a golf course - on grass and snow - and international ski competitions, but also polo on snow and jumping... A rare opportunity to see these very spectacular sports! The old Megève, a 14th century agricultural village with cobbled streets, preserved around its Saint-Jean-Baptiste church and its authentic central square, saw its architectural style evolve in 1926 with the young architect Henry Jacques Le Même who knew how to integrate the city's requirements. This authentic mountain village, which has become one of the most exclusive resorts in the Alps, has managed to preserve its initial charm by combining the harmony of its typical architectural style - despite the outdated image of sleighs and carriages and the flashy décor of luxury stores - with the authenticity of its landscape. You can discover it at the bend of a rustic alley, a steep climb or from a stone bridge under which the torrent rumbles.Megève is best enjoyed in winter, with the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area and its 400 km of runs. Here, the great names of skiing were known: Emile Allais, Adrien Duvillard ... They have contributed to making Megeve a renowned alpine resort. The mountain activities (golf on snow, polo, field hockey, dog sledding...) on the Mont-d'Arbois and Rochebrune areas are varied. In the summer, the area is pleasant, with numerous hiking trails, mountain and white water activities, golf and outdoor activities. The resort has the Family Plus label! And if Megève, in high season, may seem a little "pretentious", let yourself be surprised by a few addresses at reasonable rates and by the authenticity and charm, under the veneer of a village concerned with preserving its environment.
