This famous medieval town on the shores of Lake Geneva has preserved its remarkable architecture. The village was fortified at the end of the 13th century around the castle and has kept its medieval appearance, with two fortified gates. The houses are mostly from the 18th century. Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Yvoire owes a lot to Paul Jacquier, a kind restorer and above all mayor from 1945 to 1995, who gave impetus to the movement to preserve the local heritage (purchase of houses by the municipality, incentives for careful restorations, etc.). If possible to be visited outside the holiday peaks of July and August, especially the labyrinth in the Jardin des Cinq Sens, a magnificent work of plant life!
