A town of character in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, Orgelet has preserved a rich heritage from the past. The town had its heyday in the Middle Ages. Private mansions such as the Babey mansion bear witness to this past. The town hall overlooks the vaults of the former grain market. Grande-Rue leads to the former Bernardine convent, now a college. The cloister is visible through a bay window open to the public. The chapel now houses the media library. The church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption houses the oldest organ in Franche-Comté. All of which testifies to the rich heritage of Orgelet, the birthplace of Cadet Rousselle!
