The historic village of Carona, just outside Melide on the hill south of Monte Salvatore, is one of the attractions of the Ceresio region. Walking through the village streets, you'll come across beautiful patrician houses with facades decorated with stucco, sculptures and frescoes. Also worth seeing: the village square, with its town hall, loggia (trompe l'oeil fresco) and ecclesiastical complex. San Giorgio church blends Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Inside is one of the few copies of Michelangelo's Last Judgment, painted by Domenico Pezzi in 1585.
