In 1670, Count Vitaliano Borromeo undertook the construction of the monumental baroque palace and its gardens that made the island famous. The palace is full of works of art: tapestries, furniture, statues, paintings, and the famous baroque mosaic grottoes where it was cool in summer. Once the visit to the palace is over, you will go through the vast terraced gardens in a very pleasant walk with a magnificent view of the lake. It is a typical 17th century garden, "Italian style": its exotic and rare plants ensure a spectacular flowering, designed to offer a multitude of colours and perfumes from March to October.
