A gentle city with a rich past. The town's central point and liveliest meeting place is the Lombard-style Piazza Grande, one of the largest squares in Switzerland. This beautiful, colorful square, surrounded by stores and cafés, owes its fame above all to the famous Locarno Festival, which takes place here every August. The town is also famous for the sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, set high above the town and offering breathtaking panoramic views of the town, lake and mountains.
