There are three ways to reach Orselina (378 m), a small village overlooking Locarno: by car on the signposted but winding road, by funicular in just a few minutes or, for the very, very brave, by foot. The path through the old town takes in ancient alleyways leading to a staircase lined along its length with numerous chapels reminding walkers of the stages of the Stations of the Cross. Once there, the views of Lake Maggiore, the mountains and Locarno are spectacular. A number of grottoes and hotels await you, including the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso.
