The village of Bosco Gurin boasts a certain originality: it's the only one in the canton where German is spoken, and it's also the highest village in Ticino (1,507 m) inhabited all year round. For hikers, it offers a wide choice of itineraries in the surrounding area, as well as passes linking it to the Val Calneggia to the north (difficult and very long), the Val Formazza to the west (long) and the Val di Campo to the south. The small village of Walser Bosco Gurin is a German-speaking island in an Italian-speaking canton. The word Walser comes from the German word Walliser, meaning "Valaisan" or "of Valaisan origin".
