The arrival in the bay of São Lourenço, a cove cut in the lava flows where the turquoise sea is now engaged, is impressive; it is the Ponta Negra. It is not an ancient crater, the absence of volcanic deposits not allowing to accredit this thesis. The courage of man can be measured by the vast areas planted with vines on the slopes of the crater. The walls are entirely built with lava. The village comes alive especially in summer, around its beautiful beach and swimming pool. At the exit of São Lourenço, a belvedere offers an excellent view of the bay, the beach and the islet.
